French Four Spice Marshmallows

, , , , , , ,

Christmas is right around the corner and you know what that means!

Lots and lots of holiday baking.

Seriously, Christmas is, by far, my favorite holiday. I love the lights, the food, the decorations, the food, the goodwill towards men atmosphere, the food…

Yea, Christmas is pretty much just an excuse for me to bake all damn day.

Though, to be honest, I haven’t been baking much this holiday season. Mostly because of my recent preoccupation with candy making. Lately, I have been making so much candy that it hasn’t left me much time for baking. Last week was my super simple Honeycomb Candy. This week’s creation is my own sweet and savory twist on the old campfire staple: French Four Spice Marshmallows!

Maple-Bourbon Seafoam Candy and an Early NYE Resolution

, , , , , , ,

This post is going to be a little different. I don’t want to talk about food.

Oh don’t worry, I promised you a recipe. So there is most certainly a recipe at the end of this post. It’s the most stupidly simply candy recipe that I have ever stumbled upon (seriously, I think I found this on StumbleUpon).

Maple Bourbon Seafoam

Honeycomb candy, also known as seafoam candy, is an easy recipe that requires fewer than 5 ingredients and comes together in less than 10 minutes. As long as you have a candy thermometer, you good to go. In my version, I exchanged the honey for maple syrup and added a few tablespoons of bourbon whiskey (you know I had to).

Hawai’i Trip and Lots and Lots of Ahi Poke

Hey everyone. I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving! Cook up a storm? What was the best thing you made?

I’ll be honest. I haven’t cooked much this past week. And not just because I’ve been living off of Thanksgiving leftovers.

Why? Because I’ve been in Hawai’i. Oahu specifically.

A decent excuse I think.

In fact, I haven’t been eating much cooked food at all. While staying in the islands, my boyfriend and I all but lived off of Hawaiian poke and pineapple.

Rooibos Cookies with White Chocolate and Dried Cranberries and ‘Lush’ious Baker Tees

, , , , , , ,

I know it may not seem like it, but I really do try my best to post at least once a week. I thought it was a reasonable goal to self for myself. Clearly, I was wrong :/.

It’s been over a week and a half since I last posted. So to make up for it, I made you cookies :). Rooibos cookies with white chocolate and dried cranberries.

Rooibos Cookies 2

Of course, this is a baking blog so I suppose you would expect me to make you cookies from time to time.

Pistachio-Cardamom Shortbread with Spiced Icing

, , , , , , , , , , ,

I think I have fallen in love…

With shortbread.

Shortbread 1

It’s such a simple thing. Just butter, sugar, and flour. Maybe a bit of cornstarch and vanilla. How can something with five or fewer ingredients be so awesome!

Oh yea…butter and sugar. That will do it.

Cocoa Pebbles and Cereal Milk Cupcakes (For Two)

, , , , , , , ,

Sometimes I spend several days designing a new recipe. Researching blogs for ideas, thinking of unique flavor combinations, carefully planning the ingredients.

Sometimes I just look in to my pantry and see what I can throw together.

Cocoa Pebbles Cupcakes 4

Which is what happened with the Cocoa Pebbles and Cereal Milk Cupcakes.

“We’re Going To Disneyland!” And Chocolate Sin Torte For Breakfast

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

I know I know I know I’m late.

I’m late! I’m late! I’m late for a very important date!

Chocolate Sin Torte

I’m late for yet another blog post. This should have gone up last week when I made this flourless chocolate cake but I got slightly distracted by a little thing I like to call DISNEYLAND!!!

Bananas Foster Bread with Butter Rum Glaze

, , , , , , , ,

I have some social anxiety issues.

Sometimes its problematic.

Like when I move to a big, new city and suddenly need to figure out how to make friends.

I’m terrible at making friends. Largely because I’m terrible at talking to people. Introductions of any kind freak. me. out. I’m pretty awful at talking to people I know, let alone people I’ve just met. I’m hardly eloquent on my best of days. Add that element of near-paralyzing social anxiety and I become a mumbling, bumbling, inarticulate mess.

Bananas Foster Bread

Food helps. Somehow, if I am standing behind a plate of food, I feel ten times more comfortable (which is just enough to keep me from wanting to bolt and dive under the nearest blanket). Having food around, especially if its a dish I have made, helps put me in my element. Now I have something to talk about, some small way in which I can relate to the stranger in front of me. Food deflects the focus of the conversation away from me and saves me from asking leading questions that inevitably come out sounding canned or trite. So…how about them Dodgers…? I hate baseball. Please don’t talk to me about baseball. I can’t even handle it.

One Bowl Beer Bread Muffins

, , , , , , ,

You should make these muffins tonight.

In fact you should make them right now.

Seriously, look in your pantry/fridge. If you have ever baked, chances you have most, if not all, of these ingredients right now: flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, butter, beer, done.

Beer Bread 2

These beer bread muffins are stupidly simple. Essentially you take all of the ingredients, mix them in a single bowl, toss in some extras, scoop the batter in to a muffin tin, bake and voilá, you’ve got muffins. It’s the much underrated sequel to You’ve Got Mail. Sadly Tom Hanks was already tied up in another contract so he couldn’t be casted as the lead.
